You can send letters and photos, magazines and books also care packages (they must be bought and delivered to the facility by an approved vendor). InmateAid can do most of that for you, don't do it yourself, it is likely to be returned or discarded.

The CDCR website does not provide that information. You can call the facility and ask to speak to his counselor. BTW, your inmate definitely knows his out date.

They can either reply to your address, or to the address of InmateAid. We receive thousands of Inmate Response letters on behalf of the Members of the site, it provides a way for people to communicate with an inmate without using their actual address.

The rules everywhere are that the inmate must initiate the call and you will be prompted as to whether you will allow the call to be connected. There are going to be charges connected to saying "yes". If you are going to speak with your inmate for more than once a week, you should look into getting a number from InmateAid to make the calls cheaper.
