Does an Inmate Keep the Same CDC Number on a New Commitment?

Well let me start by saying hello. My name is Janet and my husband was just as of yesterday sent from Fresno county to Wasco r/c. My question is he is still on parole but caught new possesion charges first will he keep the same cdc number since this was not a violation but new term? Also while hes in reception is he able to make calls? Or I'm not sure how this "inmateaid" thing works can I send or talk to him thru here? Please help me to find out how all this works I"m having such a hard time with this and my heart is in pieces without him here and no contact, thank you

Yes. In the California system, a CDC number is assigned to a person the first time they enter the Department of Corrections and stays with them permanently. Whether this is a parole violation, a new commitment, or a return on new charges, the same CDC number follows your husband throughout any future involvement with the California system. You can use that number to locate him in the CDCR inmate locator as soon as he is processed into Wasco Reception Center.

On the parole complication, new charges while on parole create two separate legal situations running at the same time. The parole board can act on the original parole independently of the new case, and the judge handling the new possession charges will also be aware of the parole status. Both proceedings move on their own timelines and your husband will need to address both. An attorney who handles both criminal defense and parole matters is the most effective help in this situation.

Phone calls from Wasco Reception Center are available, but the intake and orientation period typically means limited phone access for the first week or two. Once he is through that process, calls will be available during regular phone hours. If the calls are long distance from where you are located, InmateAid's discount telephone service can bring the cost down significantly by providing a local number for him to dial. That number follows him regardless of which California facility he ends up at.

InmateAid also offers letter and photo delivery, money transfers, and books and magazines. If you need help getting started with any of these services while you wait for phone contact to be established, reach out directly and we will walk you through it.
