WSP-West is a State - maximum state correctional facility in Walla Walla, WA, operated by the Washington Department of Corrections. While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.
The WSP-West Complex serves as a maximum, close, medium, and minimum custody level state prison for adult males under the WA DOC. Volunteers play a crucial role in facilitating various programs within WSP, including religious services, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings, veterans' assistance, mentoring programs for offender families with children, and specialized services like dental hygiene and photography. Additionally, guest sports teams, musical groups, speakers, and professional organizations conduct programs for the inmate population, aiding in their rehabilitation and reintegration.
To support families visiting inmates, local motels offer gift certificates to reduce accommodation costs for those needing to stay in Walla Walla before or after scheduled visits. WSP's Family Advisory Committee collaborates to strengthen familial bonds and promote successful reentry into society for offenders.
Within the facility, academic and vocational programs are offered to equip inmates with valuable skills for future employment and personal development. These include auto body, information technology, building maintenance, bookkeeping, carpentry, diesel mechanics, graphic design, HVAC, welding, and the Dog Training and Adoption Program.
WSP Correctional Industries provides opportunities for inmates to work in various fields such as license plate production, metal fabrication, laundry services, agricultural tasks, recycling operations, and transportation/warehouse duties.
