The Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center is a locally operated low to medium-security regional detention center situated at 170 Oakes Landing Rd PO Box 403 in Saluda, VA. This facility houses inmates from multiple surrounding counties that do not have a holding facility or jail, in addition to local detainees. Individuals awaiting trial or sentencing, as well as those serving shorter sentences, typically serve less than five years. Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center accommodates detainees brought in by the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office, the Virginia DOC, Saluda Police Department, and other nearby law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
New detainees arrive frequently and may be released on bail, under pretrial supervision, or on their recognizance with a commitment to appear in court. Those who remain in custody receive essential amenities, including secure accommodations, meals, and access to necessary services. Inmate Mail
All mail received will be opened and inspected. Inmate mail will not be read or censored unless there is reason to believe it is being used for illegal purposes, threatens the safety and/or security of the facility, threatens the safety of a public official or any other person(s) or is believed to be in direct violation of facility policies. Only money orders, cashier's checks or certified checks will be accepted. Cash will not be allowed and will be returned to the sender at Inmate's expense
General Rules:
•Cards of any type are no longer authorized.
•Photographs will not exceed 4 X 6 inches in size.
•Polaroid pictures will not be accepted.
•Nude or scantily clad photos will not be accepted.
•The jail is not responsible for extra postage due.
•Newspapers, magazines, books and catalogs will be mailed from the publisher. All books must have a "soft cover" - not hardback. The Captain of Security will approve or disapprove, in whole or part, any issue if the contents compromise jail security, rehabilitation efforts or if the material is offensive to others.
•Publications cannot violate any United States Postal Regulations.
Contraband Mail
Any items found in incoming mail deemed as contraband will be seized and used when needed for a criminal investigation or prosecution. Cash or personal checks will be returned to sender at Inmate's expense. A written notice listing the reasons for the seizure will be given to Inmate and the sender. The sender will be allowed the opportunity to appeal the action and challenge the seizure to the Superintendent.
Inmates are provided with the basic essentials such as clothing, bedding, shower shoes and three (3) meals a day. Inmates may purchase items from the canteen list provided to them for other essentials. Inmates who are indigent, (no money available), will be furnished with basic hygiene products. The only items that may be provided by family members are: money orders, cashier's checks or certified checks made to the inmate, one set of court clothes may be provided as follows:

(1) One pair of slacks
(1) One pair of dress shoes (No Tennis Shoes)
(1) One pair of dress socks
(1) One dress tie
(1) One belt
(1) One full dress or skirt
(1) One suit jacket or sports coat

Community Programs
Electronic Incarceration Program (E.I.P) - This program is designed to allow eligible offenders to be incarcerated within their homes. An offender can be placed on this program under three (3) conditions: 1.The court orders you to be placed if possible.2.Court referral with approval of the Superintendent3.Referral by program staff with approval of the Superintendent and the sentencing Judge.
Work Release
By the recommendation of the court, an Inmate may be placed in the Work Release Program. Inmates in this program are permitted to leave the facility to work. All work release Inmates are required to abide by all rules, policies and procedures of this facility. All conditions will be explained once the individual has been placed in the program. If the Inmate does not violate the rules, policies or procedures of this program, he/she will remain in the program until their case has been disposed.
Religious Services
Inmates are allowed free exercise of religious belief and a reasonable opportunity to practice their religion. Volunteers from various faiths will visit this facility. Clergymen/Chaplains are for spiritual needs only. They are not involved with time computations, enrollment in programs, liaisons with the Department of Corrections, etc.
