It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.
While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.
The WERDCC is a Missouri Department of Corrections facility that accommodates approximately 2,076 adult female inmates across various security levels, ranging from minimum to maximum. In January 1998, the first inmates were assigned to WERDCC, which serves as both an intake center for females entering the state prison system from across Missouri and a permanent housing facility. Notably, WERDCC also houses female Death Row inmates for the state.
As an intake center, WERDCC plays a crucial role in processing female inmates upon their entry into the prison system. This process involves various assessments and evaluations, including orientation, educational testing, psychiatric and medical screenings, risk assessments, AIDS testing, and participation in a drug education program. Based on these evaluations, inmates are then assigned to the permanent population at WERDCC, the Chillicothe Correctional Center, or community release center treatment programs in St. Louis or Kansas City.
One notable program offered at WERDCC is the InnerChange Freedom Initiative (IFI), which provides inmates with opportunities for personal growth and rehabilitation. Through IFI, participants engage in activities and counseling aimed at fostering positive behavioral changes and preparing them for successful reintegration into society upon release.
