LCF is a State - low state correctional facility in Coldwater, MI, operated by the Michigan Department of Corrections. Inmates serve sentences ranging from one year to life and have access to programs including education, vocational training, and work assignments. This page covers how to locate an inmate, schedule visits, make calls, send money, and stay connected throughout their sentence at LCF.
While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.
The LCF, opened in 1985, operates at a medium security level II and accommodates male inmates aged 18 and older with a working capacity of 1500 prisoners. The facility primarily provides dormitory-style housing, including units designated for geriatric prisoners.
Comprising 16 housing units, Lakeland Correctional hosts two distinct rescue dog training programs. Since late 2006, the greyhound program has been active at the facility, with 20 dogs trained for 10 weeks. Similarly, the Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan program, established in 2008, involves training 14 dogs for the same duration.
In addition to housing units, the facility features a separate Food Service Building, two schools, and indoor activity areas.
Programming at Lakeland emphasizes education, vocational training, and core rehabilitation programs. Education programs encompass Employment Readiness (ER), Adult Basic Education, and General Education Development preparation. Vocational training opportunities are available in the Food Service Technology Program.
Core programming includes Violence Prevention Programming (VPP) High and Moderate, Thinking for a Change (T4C), BRIDGES (Domestic Violence Programming), and Advanced Substance Abuse Treatment (ASAT). Elective programming options comprise Violence Support Groups, Cage Your Rage, and Chance for Life. The facility also offers Law Library and General Library services.
Religious activities are coordinated through the facility's Chaplaincy, catering to a diverse range of active religions among the inmate population.
Prisoners at Lakeland Correctional Facility receive on-site dental, medical, and mental health services. Emergencies are referred to a local hospital, while serious medical issues are addressed at the Duane Water’s Hospital Health Care in Jackson.
Security measures at the facility include a double fence, electronic detection systems, and rolls of razor-ribbon wire around the perimeter. A patrol road encircles the facility, and a designated vehicle responds to all detection system alarms to ensure security.
