Stateville Minimum Security Unit, operational since March 1925, currently houses approximately 192 adult male inmates. Situated adjacent to the Stateville Correctional Center and the Northern Reception and Classification Center (NRC), which accommodate 3,020 and 1,312 inmates respectively, it serves as a component of the larger correctional complex. The unit comprises a multi-purpose building facilitating recreational and educational programs, an offender dining area, and two housing units. Inmates at the minimum security unit engage in various work assignments across the complex, contributing to operational tasks. In terms of inmate programs, academic offerings include Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Education Development (GED) courses, while vocational training opportunities encompass barbering.
