Lee State Prison, established in 1979 and renovated in 2002, is dedicated to ensuring public safety while providing rehabilitation programs to reduce recidivism. With a capacity for 762 offenders, it offers general labor and courtesy details to neighboring counties and operates as a Transfer Hub and host facility for the Albany Transitional Center.
The housing units at Lee State Prison consist of 11 general population units and two units with larger rooms, accommodating a total of 16 cells/32 beds in the isolation/segregation unit. The facility also has accommodations for wheelchair-bound offenders and a Fire Station with 10 beds for the offender Fire team. Additionally, it houses a Personnel Recruitment Center, C.E.R.T. Team, Tactical Squad, Canine Unit, and Fire Station.
In terms of work details, Lee State Prison partners with various entities including Albany City, Georgia State Patrol, Department of Transportation, Albany Technical College, and Darton College. Offenders are provided with vocational training in automotive, carpentry, small engine repair, HVAC, food preparation, barbering, laundry, custodial and building maintenance, landscaping, office work, and horticulture.
