The Baldwin Co Jail is a detention center located at 200 Hand Ave Bay Minette, AL which is operated locally by the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Baldwin County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Bay Minette Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Corrections Center, formerly known as the County Jail, has served the citizens of Baldwin County for over 200 years. The facility, with an average daily population (ADP) of approximately 550 inmates, often exceeds this number and is one of only two correctional facilities in Alabama to maintain accreditation. The center houses primarily pre-trial detainees and inmates from various jurisdictions, processing more than 15,000 intakes annually. The staff at the facility is committed to ensuring a safe, professional environment while upholding high standards of care, custody, and control.

Command Structure
The Corrections Center operates with a command structure akin to a military organization. The Commander of Corrections, holding the rank of Major, is the senior officer responsible for personnel and inmate management. This individual is supported by eight senior corrections officers, including two Captains and six Lieutenants, who oversee the center’s two divisions: the Operations Division and the Support Services Division. The Captains serve as Deputy Commanders and assume leadership in the absence of the Commander.

Intake and Court Liaison
The Intake Division oversees the processing of inmates, including booking, classification, and transportation to court hearings. The center’s staff maintains communication with the courts, including judges and district attorneys, and provides inmates with updates on their cases when available. For more specific court information, inmates and their families are advised to contact the inmate’s attorney, while the docket room can provide bond amounts and charges.

Individuals who do not post bail within the first twenty-four hours are required to appear before a judge. During this first appearance, conducted either in person or via telephone, the judge informs the arrested person of the charges against them and sets the bond amount.

Following the intake process, which includes property inventory, medical screening, and booking, inmates are assigned to the general population. Housing assignments are based on the classification of their charges, whether felony or misdemeanor, to ensure proper management and safety within the facility.

After processing, inmates are assigned to a housing area based on classification. Compliance with jail rules typically results in a lower classification and more privileges, while rule violations or additional charges lead to a higher classification and fewer privileges. Inmates serving as trustees within the jail undertake various tasks, including cooking, laundry, and commissary management, often receiving minimal compensation or sentence reduction for their services.

The jail is designed with "pods," featuring a large common area with affixed tables and attached seats, and individual cells typically on two levels. Inmates spend certain times in their cells and other times congregating in the pod for activities like playing cards, games, reading, or watching television. Movement outside the pod, such as trips to the commissary, library, or recreation area, occurs under the constant supervision of unarmed correctional officers. The environment in the county jail is considered less stressful than that of a prison because the sentences are much shorter.

The jail offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Alternatively, setting up an account through a third-party phone company may entail high fees per minute of usage. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. The Jail enforces this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.

Medical Services
The Corrections Center operates a full-service medical and dental facility within its walls, staffed by locally contracted medical professionals. Sick calls are held daily, and inmates are seen based on medical need. While all inmates receive care regardless of their ability to pay, a co-pay may be deducted from their Inmate Trust Account if funds are available.

Inmate Programs
Inmates at the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Corrections Center have access to several programs aimed at rehabilitation and personal development. Weekly non-denominational religious services are offered by local volunteers, and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings are available for inmates seeking support. Participation in these programs is voluntary.

Food Services
The kitchen at the Corrections Center provides approximately 1,740 meals per day, tailored to meet religious and medical dietary requirements. All meals are prepared under the guidance of a dietitian, and the kitchen adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Corrections Center continues to uphold its longstanding tradition of professionalism, ensuring a secure and supportive environment for inmates while maintaining high standards in all operational areas.

Visitation Information

Visitors to the facility are required to create an ICSolutions account to schedule visits. Appointments must be made at least 24 hours in advance, and visits can be scheduled up to a week ahead. Visits are available Monday through Friday, with specific time slots throughout the day. Each visit is limited to 25 minutes, and inmates are allowed two visits per week, which must occur on separate days. If a visitor does not log in within 10 minutes of the scheduled time, the visit will be canceled without a refund. Only four visitors, including children, are allowed at one time, and all minors must be accompanied by an adult. Proper identification, such as a valid state-issued ID, is required for entry.

The facility prohibits certain activities during visits, including driving, smoking, drinking alcohol, and any inappropriate behavior, such as exposing oneself or others. Any violation of these rules can result in the immediate termination of the visit, with no refund provided. Visitors who are co-defendants, involved in a domestic violence case, or have an active warrant are not permitted to visit. Repeated missed visits—two or more within 30 days—may lead to the suspension of video visitation privileges. Both visitors and inmates found in violation of visitation policies may have their privileges suspended temporarily or permanently.
