Will My Inmate Finish His Sentence at Gibson County Jail?

My son was recently transferred to Gibson county jail from Sumner county. How will we know if he is going to finish his sentence at Gibson county, or he is being detained there for a while and sent elsewhere, is their a a liaison that we can address this questions to? We made contact with Tennessee dept. of corrections and we were told his attorney should be giving us this information. Unfortunately the attorney is not sharing information. He was receiving two for one day credit served because of good behavior at Wilson and Sumner county when will Gibson county receive the total numbers and notify him of how many days he has left to serve. Thank you for your time and efforts

A transfer between multiple county facilities in Tennessee raises legitimate questions about where the sentence will ultimately be served and how credit from previous facilities gets applied going forward. The good news is that the information you need exists and the staff at Gibson County Jail have access to it.

The case manager, counselor, or unit team secretary at Gibson County are the right contacts. These are the staff members who manage individual cases, communicate with the Tennessee Department of Corrections, and have visibility into whether any detainers from other jurisdictions are attached to the case. A detainer is a legal hold placed by another court or jurisdiction that can require an inmate to be moved again after the current matter is resolved. If one exists it would explain why the sentence may not finish at Gibson County, and the staff there will know about it.

On the good time credit question, the two-for-one credit earned at Wilson and Sumner County should transfer with him as part of his sentence computation record. When an inmate moves between Tennessee facilities, the TDOC maintains a running total of time served and credits earned. Gibson County will receive that record and it will be applied toward his total sentence. The staff can confirm the current credit balance and projected release date once the intake process is complete.

It is unfortunate that the lawyers assigned to this case is making himself unavailable at a time you need information.
