What Is Visitation Like at an RRM or Halfway House?
My boyfriend is at RRM San Antonio. Just on punishment from a halfway house so hes only there for about 30 days..what should I expect for visitation when I am approved? Can I hug him or is it just through a glass?
RRM facilities and residential reentry centers operate very differently from jails and prisons. There are no cells, no locked gates, no glass partition between you. Visitation there is genuinely relaxed compared to anything you would experience at a correctional facility. You will be able to hug him, sit together, and in many cases bring food or clothing, depending on the specific house rules.
Some of these facilities are run by organizations like the Salvation Army and have comfortable setups with functional kitchens and a more residential feel. The atmosphere is oriented toward reentry and transition rather than incarceration.
That said, every RRM and halfway house has its own local rules about visiting hours, what guests can bring, and what the process for getting approved looks like. Before you make the trip, call the facility and confirm the current visiting schedule and any specific requirements they have. Things like approved visit days, whether you need to be on an approved list, and what you are allowed to bring in vary enough from one house to the next that a quick call beforehand is always worth it.
