How Do Florida Inmates Get Tablets Through JPay?
Yes I was wondering if you can actually purchase a tablet for the inmate? We are in Florida I don’t know if rules are different anywhere else. Also is the phone line and tablet in the same devices or no?
Florida inmates can have tablets, and the program is run through JPay, which currently holds the contract with the Florida Department of Corrections. The tablet and the phone are separate things. Calls happen through the facility's phone system, while the tablet is a dedicated device for education, messaging, and entertainment.
The tablet used in Florida is the JPay JP6S. It gives inmates access to educational content including Khan Academy Lite videos and GED prep through JPay's Lantern learning management system. Beyond education, it can be used for JPay messaging, music, and other approved content. Tablets are available across Florida's major correctional institutions, annexes, work camps, reentry centers, and community release centers statewide.
The tablet is typically purchased through JPay directly rather than through a third-party retailer. Families can fund the purchase and load content through their JPay account. For complete details on pricing, what content is available, and how to get started, visit jpay.com/pmusic.aspx. The rules and available features can change, so checking the JPay site directly gives you the most current information.
